Improvement of the performance of precast concrete in hughly aggressive environment

Preventing the consequences of the presence of hydrogen sulphide should not focus only on the durability of materials and components. It must integrate the rational design of the sewerage network in order to control the risks of septic transformation by promoting in particular sufficient flow conditions for their aeration and the prevention of deposits.

This study complements previous work done at Cerib and focuses on the durability of the material. The state-of-the-art highlights the main mechanisms of degradation related to the presence of H2S of biological origin. The phenomena of bio-deterioration of cementitious materials in sewerage network are more complex than simple acidic chemical attack. New concrete solutions have been studied and an innovative in situ accelerated test has been developed.
