Impact of French seismic regulation on the energetic performance of houses

In several township, French seismic regulation can enforce different structural arrangement from NF DTU 20.1. Among the different arrangements needed, the regulation includes an increase of number and size of chaining at particular points of the structure. Accordingly, seismic regulation can lead to an increase of heat losses by the thermal bridges. The aim of this study is to estimate the impact of seismic regulation on the energetic performance of houses.

The study shows that the impact of the structural arrangement in seismic zones 3 and 4 onBioclimatic Needs (BBio) is small if insulation is set inside or outside the masonries (0  to 2%). For light masonry with no reported insulation, the impact is more important (4 to 8% of BBio points).
